Big bus in the big city.

Jewell Porter here — I’m ODP’s Digital Organizer, and I work on the minority engagement team to help identify new opportunities to connect with minority voters. I’m tagging in for Claire today to tell you about the AMAZING day I had in the Queen City on the #PeopleFirst bus tour.

Today’s trip on the bus tour was our most ambitious yet. With a rally, stops at barbershops, an outdoor festival and a party with the Young Black Dems, today ended up being a ton of fun.

Stop one — we hustled to Dems HQ in Cincinnati for a rally with Zack Space for State Auditor, Rob Richardson for State Treasurer, Judge Michael P. Donnelly for Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, Aftab Pureval for Congress in OH-1, Jill Schiller for Congress in OH-2, Sedrick Denson for HD33 and Hamilton County judicial candidates Judge Marilyn Zayas, Candace Crouse, Terry Nestor, Tom Beridon and Pavan Parikh.

Check out the live stream from this rally!
Such a sharp looking group of #OHDEMS candidates!

Next, we swung by an African American Male Wellness Walk with some of our statewide and judicial candidates. Candidates mingled with folks walking around and talked to voters about our #PeopleFirst message and our Blueprint for Ohio.

But one of the best highlights of this stop was seeing Rob Richardson bust out his dance moves with the staple dance for any African American function — The Wobble. It was iconic. Check it out here:

Personal highlight: Rob doing The Wobble.
Judge Ginger Bock joined our other judicial candidates!

Next up, we hit some barbershops to talk to folks about everything from criminal justice reform to making local courts work better for you. The candidates had in-depth and heartfelt conversations with these voters.

90 degrees meant the fall fest certainly didn’t feel like fall. I was still into it.

After that, we headed back into Cincinnati to visit two more barbershops for more conversations about the issues important to those voters. We even got to catch up with Vice Chair McFarlin, who was our honorary tour guide. She LOVED the bus and got her own “Nerds for Cordray” t-shirt.

We ended the day at the Ohio Young Black Dems’ day party. I got to catch up with some of my friends (Hi, Umeirra!) who are fighting to elect Democrats up and down the ballot in the Queen City.

That’s all from me, folks! Make sure you stay connected with me on Twitter at @jewelldporter — I’ll keep you updated with all of the things we’re doing to engage voters across the Buckeye State.
