All Aboard! We’re Headed to the Board of Elections
🎶On the first day of early voting, my true love gave to me… 🎶
Happy Early Voting!
The #PeopleFirst Bus Team couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than to spend the day rallying outside three different boards of elections — first in Bowling Green, then Toledo and wrapping up the day in Cleveland.
We first gathered with candidates around the picturesque clocktower in Bowling Green (which gave off mad “Back to the Future” vibes).
Speakers Chairman David Pepper, candidate for State Auditor Zack Space, candidate for Congress in OH-5 Michael Galbraith, candidate for HD3 Aidan Hubbell-Staeble and candidate for Wood County Auditor Buddy Ritson talked about the importance early voting and voting all the way down the ticket.
Next stop was Toledo, where we joined in the community party outside the Lucas County Early Voting Center. We had a blast dancing and celebrating with unions and other progressive groups before we heard from tons of Democratic candidates, including Michael Galbraith, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-9), Rob Richardson for Ohio Treasurer and Zack Space — plus tons of local Democrats.
Following the press conference, voters marched into the Board of Elections to vote early, and we took Zack and Marcy with us on the bus to drive to our final event of the day in Cleveland. On the drive, Chairman David Pepper talked with Congresswoman Kaptur about issues surrounding Lake Erie, the disastrous effects of gerrymandering and why it’s so important for us to elect Democrats this year.
The event in Cleveland really brought it. When we pulled up, we were welcomed by the Shaw High School Marching Band! This just confirmed my previously un-tested theory that the best way to celebrate early voting is with a marching band.
While music blared and the marching band played, we heard from Rep. Nicki J. Antonio who’s running for SD23, Rep. Stephanie Howse running for re-election in HD11, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Judge Michael Donnelly running for State Supreme Court, Zack Space, and candidate for Lt. Governor Betty Sutton. We were also joined by local Democratic leaders, candidates and elected officials.
With the marching band playing us off, we started the drive back to Columbus feeling excited, optimistic and frankly, pumped the heck up.
Early voting is open. 27 days until the election. Party on.
